Bob is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.

A career in the health service took Bob through various accountancy posts to District Finance Officer of Essex Health Authority from 1974 – 1981; Director of Finance, Mid-Essex Health Authority from 1982 – 1991 and Director of Finance and Information, North Essex Health Authority 1991 – 1996. 

On taking early retirement, Bob became a financial consultant specialising in the NHS and from April 2001 to September 2006 a non-executive director and Audit Committee chairman of Maldon and South Chelmsford Primary Care Trust. In January 2007 he became a non-executive director of Mid Essex hospitals NHS Trust and was appointed chairman of the Audit Committee in January 2008.   
 
Bob is a former President and current Treasurer of Chelmsford Rotary Club, Treasurer of District 1240 of Rotary International, Treasurer of the Chelmsford Medical Education and Research Trust, Treasurer and Trustee of the Melvill Sheppard Fund for Registered Nurses and Treasurer and Trustee of the Danbury Society.
